If you’ve been given bad news, experienced pregnancy loss or feel overwhelmed with anxiety there is support and information available. In my 20+ years of working in healthcare here are some links to organisations that you may find helpful. Please don’t ever feel alone – instead, reach out to these groups who have vast experience and can provide specialist help when you need it the most.

Sands – The Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity

Sands works to support anyone affected by pregnancy loss or the death of a baby. Baby loss has a huge impact on those affected and can be an isolating and lonely experience. Sands offers a safe space for anyone affected by pregnancy and baby loss.

Support meetings are held in Norfolk. These are informal drop-in sessions where you can seek support and advice from trained befrienders, meet other bereaved families, and chat freely.

Helpline support is available from 9:30am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday, and from 9:30am to 9:30pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Miscarriadge UK

The Miscarriage Association offers support and information to anyone affected by the loss of a baby in early pregnancy. They also raise awareness of miscarriage and promote good practice in medical care. They provide a network of support groups and telephone contacts throughout the UK.

Antenatal Results and Choices (ARC) logo

Antenatal Results and Choices (ARC)

ARC is a charity that provides support to anyone who has received a scan result showing that their baby may not be developing as expected. They offer non-directive information and support to parents before, during and after antenatal screening, when a baby is diagnosed with an anomaly, while making difficult decisions about continuing or ending a pregnancy, and when coping with the complex and painful issues that can follow, including bereavement. They also provide a helpline, support network and literature for parents, families and professionals.

Tommy's is the largest UK charity researching the causes and prevention of pregnancy complications, miscarriage, stillbirth, and premature birth.

Tommy’s Midwives’ helpline offers baby loss support for any aspect of pregnancy loss, including miscarriage, stillbirth, ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy, or termination for medical reasons. There is also a Miscarriage Support Tool available online, which uses an algorithm developed by the National Centre for Miscarriage Research to predict the likelihood of a successful next pregnancy based on five key factors, while providing information and support.

Theresa's Tiny Treasures

Theresa's Tiny Treasures is a registered West Norfolk baby bereavement charity run by ex-midwife Theresa McGrath. The charity offers support to families who have lost a longed-for baby at any stage of pregnancy and after birth.

The charity provides free or donation-based remembrance photography, plaster castings, resin angels, bereavement clothing and blankets, teddies and soft toys, as well as other handmade keepsakes.

Norfolk Integrated Domestic Abuse Service

Norfolk Integrated Domestic Abuse Service (NIDAS) provides domestic abuse support for those assessed to be at serious, high, or medium risk of harm.

They offer confidential and non-judgemental support. Many people experiencing domestic abuse can feel trapped and overwhelmed, but you are never alone. NIDAS provides dedicated support from a Domestic Violence Advocate who works alongside you to understand your needs and provide a solution-focused pathway, including help with safety planning and recovery.

Refuge supports those experiencing abuse. They mainly support women and children, but their community services also extend to men.

Refuge can provide emergency temporary accommodation with specialist staff offering one-to-one support for those fleeing an abusive partner. They also provide legal help and support with navigating the welfare benefits available from the government.

Leeway – Domestic Violence and Abuse Services

Leeway supports over 14,000 adults, children and young people experiencing domestic abuse every year.

They provide community services to any adult or child experiencing domestic abuse, including those from the LGBTQ+ community. Their staff provide free and confidential, non-judgemental information, along with a range of services, support and protection to help anyone experiencing domestic abuse. Their aim is to empower people to make independent decisions about their life and their future.

Pandora Project logo

Pandora Project

Pandora Project is a specialist domestic abuse charity offering free, confidential one-to-one support and non-judgemental advice to women in Norfolk.

They also provide a webchat service available from 1pm to 3pm on weekdays, accessible via their website. Their free ‘Open the Box’ 10-week recovery programme helps people understand the abuse they have experienced and begin to recover from the trauma.

Pandora Project also works in partnership with Norfolk County Council, West Norfolk & King’s Lynn Borough Council, and Freebridge Housing Association to provide support in safe and secure accommodation for people fleeing domestic abuse.

Samaritans

Samaritans is a registered charity that provides support to anyone in distress, around the clock.

They connect people in crisis with trained volunteers who will always listen, helping to reduce feelings of isolation and prevent suicide. The service is a confidential 24/7 listening service for anyone who is struggling to cope, experiencing emotional distress, or having suicidal thoughts.

REST is a partnership project that brings together mental health support, local services, and a place where everyone can feel welcome.

REST stands for Recover, Eat, Support and Talk. Community Wellbeing Hubs are walk-in services based in King’s Lynn town centre, providing one-to-one and group-based support to people experiencing mental health difficulties in a non-clinical environment.
